Cistermiser is delighted to announce that the company is now partnering with Lockdown Loo, an innovative website and social media brand that’s dedicated to sharing the location of every public toilet open in the UK. Through our lobbying work and close collaboration with trade associations like the BMA, Cistermiser has always been vocal in championing the role of public and commercial washrooms. But against a backdrop of COVID-19, the role of the humble washroom has become even more important to help kick-start beleaguered High Streets all over the country. That’s why our new relationship with Lockdown Loo is so important – together we can help give consumers peace of mind that they can go about their daily lives (as far as possible in this ‘new normal’) without worrying about whether the nearest public toilet are open, safe and hygienic, and in turn, contribute to more High Street footfall and boost retail business trade.
Already featured on BBC Breakfast, Radio 5 Live, MailOnline and many others, Lockdown Loo is the brainchild of brothers Thomas and Charles Riley, who launched the site following the temporary (and often permanent) closure of public toilets in the wake of Covid-19. It’s an innovative solution to help people try to get on with their daily lives by allowing them to check where their nearest open toilets are when they’re out and about. It relies on members of the public sharing their local knowledge and submitting information on their locality. It currently lists over 5,500 toilets and has seen 7 million visitors coming to use the interactive map locator, which pinpoints available “loo-cations” and provides details of the public washroom facilities.
Richard Braid, Cistermiser MD comments: “Public toilets play a vital role in our communities and economy and ensuring universal access to these facilities is critical in maintaining the high level of public hygiene we need to adopt. Not only do we need to keep these frontline services open safely, we need to see investment in upgrading them. All the team at Cistermiser are passionate about conserving water and striving to make public and commercial washrooms as accessible, safe and energy efficient as possible. Lockdown Loo dovetails perfectly with this strategy.”
Tom Riley of Lockdown Loo comments: “We have been blown away by how successful Lockdown Loo has become in such a short time. We started it as a bit of fun and a useful resource for those close to us, and it has just mushroomed. When you find yourself being interviewed by BBC Breakfast you realise what an important issue this is and what a vital role public toilets play to keep people out and about safely and hygienically – especially older people, those living with illnesses or with young children.
“We’re absolutely delighted to team up with Cistermiser and with their support, announce new initiatives that will mean the resource goes beyond ‘Lockdown’ loo and becomes a permanent online fixture.”
